It has been a year, and I have survived! Lets be honest I have more than survived I have thrived! It has been a year since my husband and I welcomed Gus a standard Goldendoodle to our already crazy life. After all we had 3 children, our oldest Raquel was a freshman in college, our son Ricky was a junior in high school, and our youngest Giavanna was in 6th grade. My husband Rick and I have always said “if we aren’t a little crazy we aren’t living!”
What I didn’t expect is how much I would come to love this Goldendoodle. Gus chewed up everything, my throw rugs, Giavanna’s flip flops, random items out of the hamper…. underwear was a favorite! Gus ate most of our vegetable garden, pulled out newly planted trees, and peed on everything! Gus welcomed me with the most addicting enthusiasm everyday when I came home from work. Gus was by my side as I made dinner, folded laundry, or was watching TV. Gus always had a paw, or is ginormous head on my foot, my lap, or whatever part of me was close by. Gus greeted every family member like this, but he reserved his full on hugs for Rick and Ricky …
It wasn’t long before the chewing slowed… I can’t say stopped because if Gus is left for any length of time he will chew and destroy jut about anything, he needs his people. Gus has grown from a sweet 10lb 8 week old puppy to a handsome 90lb 15 month old. We call him our gentle giant, and I look forward to sharing our journey with you all on this blog.
